Could anchoring your child’s furniture save their life?
ANCHOR, ANCHOR, ANCHOR! When working with clients I always caution them to essentially turn their child’s room into a giant crib. Always anchor and lock anything that can be opened or pulled down, this is especially important for children who are mobile and those who are not sleeping in a crib or who can climb out of their cribs.
Thankfully, the story depicted in the picture above did not result in tragedy, but it easily could have. I know when bringing a new baby home there are so many things to remember to do each day, all while becoming acclimated to being a parent and dealing with sleep deprivation. I encourage parents to calendar a time before their child is born to remind them to anchor all the furniture in the child’s room before the baby is mobile. It might seem mundane but it can truly save a life.
